Teaching Baseball Swing Mechanics
question for a person who teaches hitting mechanics and knows what they are talking about.?
Hi, i am a 12 year old middle school baseball player. i am on my middle school team, as well as a 13u travel baseball team. i am pretty much a good, power hitter. i have discovered a problem though. i have been pulling every single ball either down the third base line or foul. my problem even cost me a huge hit last night. i hit a rocket that landed five feet away from the 308 foot fence, but even with the wind blowing out towards right field, the ball landed just outside the foul line. i have been pulling every single ball in the batting cage also. i know this sounds like i’m swinging early, but i try to lay back on them and swing a little late, but its always too late and i miss the ball. if you have any suggestions, it would be awesome if you could let me know, either on this question or you could email me @ masterlongbeard8@aol.com. thankyou
Some people will put in an extra step in their hitting mechanics, otherwise known as a timing mechanism or a tick. In general, this is a bad practice as it changes your ability to react to the different pitches in a negative way.
Learning to weight back is really the best approach.
Try to do so with repetition. Get out of the batting cage too. When you see pitches that are the same velocity every time, you get used to hitting it with power (pulling the ball). You need to get on the field and have BP THROWN to you. This will ensure that you can adapt to pitches in different locations and speeds. This works because people are not as consistent as that Iron Mike Pitching Machine that is hurling a 75MPH every time.
If you have to stay in the cage, then work on going opposite field. You can do this by keeping your hands inside and extending your arms. Also, you won’t be able to go oppo unless you weight back. This should transition nicely into the games and make you a much more versatile and dangerous batter.
Best of luck!
