Top 12 World News Stories In 2006 – Recap of what happened in the World
From town criers to pigeon messengers of the tablets and scrolls to newspapers, radio and television news coverage online the way news spreads throughout the world has changed over time. News updates people on what is happening and where it is happening, opinions and news ways to influence the lives of people. It is a story that moves help in times of natural disasters or terrorist attacks.
The year 2006 has changed some other bright shades of gray. It was not death, war, scandals, sports, and a few treats. What the 10 stories 2006, may vary and depend on individual perspectives. After all a matter of choice.
1. The month of January saw Russia cut gas to Ukraine Iran said it would continue nuclear research, Iraq saw strife and death, Sharon suffered a stroke, U.S. received threats from Osama and intensified its fight against terrorism and led a leader of Al-Qaeda, the Iraqi election results were declared. New treatment for cancer of the greater life expectancy, Dow Jones reached a milestone, and a spacecraft bound for Pluto.
2. February saw the Iran's Atomic Energy Council of the UN, the world protests all produced by the cartoons of Muhammad that appeared in European newspapers, Harvard President resigned; avalanche buried a village in the Philippines, the Olympic Games started in Italy.
3. The month of March was when India and the U.S. agreed on a nuclear pact, Iraq witnessed an escalation of violence, Milosevic died in prison Saddam Hussein testified for the first time the UN passed a new Human Rights Council, the U.S. launched an offensive in Iraq, France was paralyzed by a nationwide strike working width, the Security Council issued a statement on Iran and the Palestinian cabinet was sworn scientists found water on Saturn moon, General Motors and the union agreed to a retirement package and early buy-out to 113,000 unionized workers, and Major League Baseball decided to seriously investigate the use steroids.
4. April saw Chirac the French president to sign a controversial labor law, Saddam Hussein is accused of genocide, a general strike in Nepal against King Gyanendra, Prodi wins Italian elections, Iran announces progress in nuclear program, a suicide bomber attacked a restaurant in Tel Aviv, Germany allows access to the archives of the Holocaust, the Chinese president visits U.S. bombing kills people in Egypt series, European research reveals the secret CIA flights in Europe Peace Agreement and end the violence in Darfur. The scientists found fossils of A375 million year old fish with the tip early signs of development set a link between aquatic and land forms, the FDA rejected medical use of marijuana.
5. May was when Bolivia nationalized its natural gas industry; Moussaoui a September 11 terrorist attacks was sentenced to life imprisonment, Israel's parliament approved a coalition government, the leaders of Sudan signed peace pact Iranian President Bush gives a letter of complaint, USA approved aid to Palestine, the UN recommends closer to Guantanamo, Bush and Blair admitted mistakes in Iraq, USA agreed to join Europe in talks with Iran. New England was flooded by record rain fall, soda companies agreed remove sugary sodas in schools, Enron executives were convicted, and Indonesia earthquake killed thousands and rendered thousands homeless.
6. June saw United Nations urging greater action on AIDS, Canada arrested seventeen citizens accused of terrorism, Iran was offered incentives to to abandon the nuclear program, an Al Qaeda leader killed in Iraq, Hamas ended cease-fire with Israel, Bush visited Iraq, Hussein's defense attorney was murdered the Pentagon released a study questioning. The FDA approved a vaccine for cervical cancer, Bill Gates decided to step aside, art sales shot with the sale of paint $ 135 million, Warren Buffett donated 85% of his fortune to philanthropic organizations and Atlantic regions suffered Worst floods in decades.
7. July witnessed the death of many people killed in the markets of Iraq, North Korea test fired six missiles, intensified violence in Gaza, Nobel Peace Laureate became the Prime Minister of East Timor, India tested a long-range missile, Russia and China agree with the West a Security Council resolution against Iran, Hussein Trial ended; Congo held historic elections, NATO took command of Afghanistan. The former head of Enron died, Italy won its fourth World Cup, hundreds of people died in a tsunami caused by an undersea earthquake in Indinesia.
8. August was a month of contrasts, Israel intensified ground offensive in Lebanon, the Ukrainian Parliament approved a new prime minister, U.S. general presented a grim report on Iraq, Britain foiled a major terrorist plot, Iran ignores deadline to cease its nuclear activities, civilian registration number of Iraqis killed. The FDA approved the morning-after pill, and many died in plane crash in Kentucky, Judge limits cigarette marketing tactics, Pluto is demoted and classified as a dwarf planet, and California adopted stringent emission laws.
9. September was a sharp increase in the number of victims Iraqis Alto al Qaeda leader Hamid al-Saeedi was captured in Iraq, Blair announced plans to resign, Israel lifted its air blockade of Lebanon, the Embassy U.S. Syria was attacked; riots rocked Hungary; Assessment revealed that the Iraq war resulted in increased Islamic radicalism, and Japan has A new Prime Minister. Shuttle service makes up to 12-day mission, the Pope's speech in Germany incited Muslim anger and the CDC recommends a comprehensive test HIV.
10. October saw the running of elections in Brazil, the intensification of Palestinian violence, North Korea tested a nuclear device, the UN appointed a new Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon Security Council imposes sanctions on North Korea Military battle to gain control of Tie, Iran believes that it is enriching uranium Pakistan Islamic school civilian targets near the Afghan border, and Bush at a news conference discussed Iraq war openly. Google bought YouTube a website popular video, Hawaii experiences great earthquake Dow closed higher than 12,000, NASA approved the Hubble repair.
11. November saw the Taiwanese president accused of corruption; Saddam convicted as guilty and sentenced to death, Israel ended the incursion into Gaza, South Africa legalized marriage of same sex Lebanese minister was assassinated Nepal plans elections, and scale civilian deaths in Iraq reach record levels. Storms ravage the Southeast of U.S. and hundreds of people killed in Philippines typhoon.
12. In December, Hugo Chavez won in a landslide in Venezuela; the crises in Iraq expected scaling the peaks of violence suicide bomber kills many in Baghdad, UN leader in the jury and asks the Palestinian leader to early elections, the fight breaks out in Somalia; Israel decided to build new settlements in the West Bank, Saddam Hussein is executed and Gerald Ford died at age 93. NASA announced the creation of a basis in Moon and the National Institutes of Health revealed that circumcision may reduce the risk of contracting AIDS through heterosexual sex.
