Baseball Question…….For Minnesota Twins Fans?
I want your input on the trading of Johan Santana. I was just devistated when I heard that he is leaving them. And them of course the famous Tori Hunter. What is going on with the Twins? As long as they don’t get rid of Joe Mauer I’m fine but if they do I a m leaving them for another team to chear for. So please give me your input on all of these little things that make me so angry at the Twins.
The Twins are not a big market team like the Yankees, Redsox, Mets, Angels and Dodgers.
They dont have enough revenue coming in (give partial credit to Calvin Griffith for that). To sign Hunter and Santana this year would cause Pohlad to lose many millions of dollars. Would you do this if you owned the team?
Dont bet on huge payroll increase until 2010 or 2011 once they are in the new stadium. Then they will have more revenue options and be able to spend more.
Between Santana and Hunter, its my opinion that they should try to keep Santana. But thanks to Barry Zito’s contract from last year and mismanagement by the front office (not signing Santana last spring when he would have taken just over 60 million) we probably wont have either.
Trading Johann will most likely fill our holes at CF and 3B in the long run. CF from the trade, 3B from the money saved (hello pedro feliz?). Its unfortuante, but I dont think the Twins will return to glory until they are in the new stadium.
