Different Baseball Pitches Slider
What are the different pitches in baseball?
I hear the terms fastball, curve ball, slider, etc. thrown around a lot, but I don’t really understand that differences, and what the advantages and disadvantages of each are. Also, is it possible to tell the difference with the naked eye while watching a baseball game?
Depends on where you are sitting…but yes, you could tell the diffrence between a fastball and a curve ball. Or on TV, you could clearly see the difference.
I could tell the diffrence if I saw a slider, which is basically a fastball, which moves in on the batter or moves away. And a sinker drops down (obviously) or a split finger fastball which also drops down sharply
The way to understand the pitches is to know which pitches each pitcher could throw….example…CC Sabathia…he basically throws fastballs and sliders at diffrent speeds…he only occasionally goes with a curve or change up. But he could spot those pitches at diffrent locations, while varying the speeds, but he probably only throws about 3 different pitches.
I think watching on TV for several games, you could get the idea, as the commentators would point out which pitch is thrown.
