How can i get local businesses to donate to a High School Baseball team?
My brothers HS baseball team is pretty much the poorest baseball team in the school district. The don’t have any lockers/cubbies for the stuff, they don’t have field care equipment, there varsity players have been wearing the same jerseys for the past four years..they are old, torn and stained…
This year the parents of the incoming freshmen are trying to raise money for these boys..We are having a bingo night..we need things donated as prizes for that…i would also like to ask local home depots or sports stores if they would like to donate equipment for the up keep of the field….how can i go about this?
I once did a raffle for a school team and needed prizes. We got a good deal of free stuff to raffle off. You have a much better chance of getting donations from local businesses, not large companies (large companies tell you to write to their headquarters and it takes forever to get a response). Small business owners usually can make choices right then and there. You can offer to put flyers or a banner advertising their business at you games that way they are getting their name out there and helping you. Don’t be afraid to tell these people the situation, pity works better than anything. Also be specific about what you are asking for don’t just generally ask for a donation. For example if you are talking to restaurant owner ask then for a $30 gift card because if you aren’t specific sometimes they just want to give you a coupon for $2 off an appetizer, and you can’t really use that as a prize. Always ask for the manager and follow up.
