Baseball Manager Salaries Yankees
What do you think is the main reason Joe Torre left the New York Yankees to manage the Los Angeles Dodgers?
Was it really about the money? Joe Torre said he felt that $5 million was an insult. However, the Los Angeles Dodgers offered Torre much less money, $13 million for three years, an average salary of $4.33 million a year.
Is it that the pressure in New York was just too much? It is really hard to manage a team with so much talent, while taking criticism from the fans at the same time.
Or could it possibly be that George Steinbrenner is a real @sshole? During the Cleveland Series last season, George Steinbrenner had threatened to fire Joe Torre if he did get past that series. If I recall, Steinbrenner was quoted saying, “His job is on the line. I think we’re paying him a lot of money. He’s the highest-paid manager in baseball, so I don’t think we’d take him back if we don’t win this series.”

George and the whole Steinbrenner disrespected Joe Torre. It’s not about the $$$. Torre is a very rich man with all the $ he wants. Who doesn’t want to manage the Yankees? The fact that George came out and said Torre is gone while they were still playing the Indians in the ALDS and then offered Torre a 1 year deal to come back……that’s garbage.
You can’t trust what George or Hank says these days….they have the real power over Cashman and even when Cashman said the Yankees wouldn’t negotiate if Arod opts out…well looked at what happened. Cashman is basically a figurehead.
