Hitting:
Have your swing analyzed by somebody who really knows. Video and watch it over and over again. Practice good mechanics then continue to increase the speed of your swing using those good mechanics. Strength training and stretching to add flexibility are big helps too.

Fielding:
The Shortstop position is more than just fielding grounders and covering bases. Learn the game and know what EVERYBODY on the field has to do for every play. Typically the on-field leaders are the players up the middle (Catcher, Pitcher, Shortstop and Center Fielder). The best training you can do is to increase your footspeed and agility. Both are key for a shortstop. Arm strength is another key. Learn the little things like proper positioning for cutting off an outfielders throw, footwork at 2nd base during a double play. Increase your range on shallow pop-flies. I see lots of balls drop behind 2nd base and 3rd base that the Shortstop should be able to get to.

Well, there’s lots of stuff to work on, good luck and keep practicing. Perfect Practice makes pefect play.
