America and the Royal Wedding? Poll Says “Who Cares”

Hundreds of thousands of dollars are being spent to send hundreds of TV reporters from networks and local TV stations to London this week for the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.  Even cable has jumped on the bandwagon as CNN, the so called news leader, has Anderson Cooper getting a crash course in royal etiquette for his part in the royal union coverage. Unfortunately, in true news media fashion, they all seem to have it wrong.  According to a New York Times/CBS poll, only 6% of us in this country are following this event “very closely” while most of us in the States don’t care.

According to the poll, only 22% are following this thing “somewhat closely” and the majority of people with any interest in the wedding are older women.  Yes the same women who are no longer watching soap operas find themselves in the “who cares” category for this wedding,  And given the death of the daytime genre over the past few years should we expect limited interest in this event?

Well, yeah, or course!Men? Ha, ha,ha, ha ha.  Men could give two cents about this event.  50% of men are not following this thing at all but wouldn’t we all like to meet the men who are in to this, as the poll asks, “very closely?”  With the NBA Playoffs, the NHL Playoffs and baseball all going on this week along with the NFL draft, there’s going to be a ton of conflict for the television remote.

Get the DVR’s ready guys!  Or make sure there’s a flat screen in the living room and the bedroom.  Cause the coverage this week will be wall to wall Prince William and Kate. Turn on any local news channel for the rest of the week and this is all you will see.  Even the evening news programs are on the prowl for a good story out of this week’s festivities.  All this coverage by the news media and nobody cares.  Well according to this poll.

The festivities begin on Friday morning at 1AM.  I will be asleep.
